As we approach the blessed days of Dhul-Hijjah, we remember the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim (AS)—a time of sacrifice, gratitude, and unity.

Yet for thousands of our brothers and sisters in Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Malawi, and Burundi refugee camps, Eid al-Adha arrives amid displacement, hunger, and uncertainty.

This is a forgotten ummah.

The Situation

Ongoing violence and instability in Eastern DRC have forced millions from their homes.
As of early 2026:

• Over 5.6 million people are internally displaced in the DRC
• More than 90,000 Congolese refugees have fled into Burundi
• 26.6 million people face severe food insecurity across the region

For many Muslim families, Qurban meat is the only meat they receive all year.

Children, widows, the elderly, and people with disabilities are among the most affected.
